Classes

We are currently offering classes for ages 5-7 and 8-12 years and will be launching our Teenage and Adults programs in the coming months.

Kata (form) and sparring classes as well as workshops, seminars and training camps (gasshuku) will also be introduced soon. Feel free to drop us a message if you are interested.

Kids Aged 5-7

Tuesdays & Thursdays
4:30pm – 5:15pm

The Kids’ program is designed based on children’s developmental age and with particular focus on physical and mental mastery. Activities are centered around balance, coordination and posture (physical) as well as confidence, independence and regulation (emotional).

Classes are developed to balance individual as well as team tasks while building confidence and having FUN.

Our classes are structured and disciplined and follow the official IKO syllabus.

Fight Class

** COMING SOON **

Students should have their own equipment (gloves, shinpads, mouthguard). This class is a prerequisite if students wish to compete in tournament.

Your Instructor will let you know if you are ready to attend this class.

This is a no-gi class. Please wear any exercise clothing.

Youth Aged 8-12

Tuesdays & Thursdays
5:30pm – 6:30pm

This class focuses on more complex and refined tasks with particular emphasis on physical and mental command. Partner work is common as children learn to work and interact with different bodies and their distinct physical abilities. Tasks are focused on mental fluidity & flexibility and praciticing openness to changing stimuli.

The Teach-to-Teach program begins during these classes where students with an appropriate level are taught basic teaching skills and are invited to assist with instructing.

Kata & Bunkai (Application) Class

Kata classes are dedicated to learning and understanding form and include investigation into the history and application of styalized movements.

Your Instructor will let you know if you are ready to attend this class.

Students aspiring to or preparing to compete in IKO Kata Tournaments (whether Nationally or Internationally) are required to attend these classes.

Teen Program (13-16)

** COMING SOON **

This class addresses the challenges that come with a changing teenage body and mind. Discipline, control and mental clarity is critical as the adolescent body begins to develop power. Focus is on accuracy, disclipline, etiquette and mastery. Goal- and group-oriented tasks are presented.

The Teach-to-Teach program is also introduced in this class once students have reached the appropriate level. All teens from 4th kyu (green belt) and up will learn to teach and take classes.

Advanced teens are welcome to join the adult class if they’re up for some additional challenges.

Adults (16/17+)

** COMING SOON **

Our adults’ class is open to any age 16 and above; we cater to every human.

Full IKO syllabus is taught in this structured class which will include flexibility, kihon (basics), ido geiko (moving basics), kata (form), as well as drills, bagwork, sparring and fitness.

Bootcamp has nothing on this class. Be prepared… [but don’t be scared]!

Gradings (Belt Tests)

Tests are scheduled twice/year and are conducted by invitation only.

When students have met adequate syllabus requirements as well as requirements for etiquette & discipline for their level, they are considered ready and will be put forward by their instructor for testing.

Gasshuku & Seminars

Gasshukus (training camps) and workshops / seminars are arranged throughout the year.

These may be based locally or countrywide and will be advertised to all IKO dojo members.

International training camps and seminars are by invitation only.

Tournaments

Local tournaments are scheduled throughout the year and are open to all IKO dojo members.

All National or International tournaments will require a selection process and are only open to those qualifying.
